Worried Your Child or Teen May Be Show Signs of an Eating Disorder?

Eating Disorders Are More Common Than You Think

Girls and boys of all ages can be impacted by eating disorders, in fact at least 22% of children and adolescents have eating behaviors that can lead to or indicate an eating disorder.

Studies show that as early as age 6 girls begin to worry about their weight, and by age 14 between 60-70% are actively trying to lose weight.

Eating Disorders Are More Dangerous Than You Think

While it can be easy to assume that eating disorders are a young person behavior tied to insecurity or peer pressure, the truth is that eating disorders carry the highest risk of death of any psychiatric illness

Studies show that only 20% of adolescents with eating disorders ever seek treatment leading to long term patterns of disordered eating into adulthood. Untreated eating disorders can have long term impacts on growth and development.

Eating Disorders Are More Treatable Than You Think

Up to 60% of patients make what's considered a "full recovery" with eating disorder counseling, nutritional guidance, and further treatment. The most successful outcomes typically involved an experienced physician, a mental health provider, and a registered dietitian (that's us!).

At Nutrition That Heals we're equipped to help your child and teen with all manner of eating disorders, and provided science-backed nutritional advice and guidance for your own personal challenges. And the best part?

Most of our clients are fully covered under their insurance for nutritional counseling from a registered dietitian. If you'd like to check with your provider, we've created an easy to use script.
